Restaurant Week Is About More Than Restaurant Week

Las Vegas Restaurant Week 2026 is currently underway. Running through June 12 (and likely to be extended an additional week this year), the annual event allows foodies to support Southern Nevada’s largest food bank, Three Square, through specialty menus offered by Las Vegas’ top restaurants.

Established in 2007, Restaurant Week has become a Las Vegas institution. Each year, local foodies excitedly prepare for its arrival by scanning the hundreds of special prix fixe menus on the event website. Some regular visitors plan trips to coincide with it. And if you’ve worked in the local F&B industry, there’s a good chance you’ve participated.

Yes, we all know about Restaurant Week. But it’s important to remember why we do it.

I recently drove to Three Square’s campus to interview a representative about the event, as I’ve done nearly every year of its existence. As you’ll hear on this week’s episode of the Food and Loathing podcast, I discussed dates, times, prices, URLs and more with Will Edwards. We covered all the fun stuff. But as I drove home, all I could focus on was the need – and the fact that in a city known for extravagance and fine dining, more than 377,000 of our neighbors are uncertain about their next meal.

The Changing Face of Hunger

Those people come from every walk of life. They may be working parents juggling part-time jobs. They may be veterans living on fixed incomes. And as Las Vegas learned during the pandemic, they may also be people who never imagined they would need this type of help.

During our interview, Edwards reminded me how the face of hunger changed dramatically during COVID. With casinos shuttered and tourism halted, thousands of hospitality workers suddenly found themselves without paychecks. We saw luxury vehicles lining up at food distributions, with executives and other professionals facing the same uncertainty as everyone else.

The pandemic was a stark reminder of our vulnerability. And the way Three Square sprang into action to help feed people was a beautiful reminder of how this city takes care of its own.

50 Million Meals

Last year, Restaurant Week raised more than $400,000 for Three Square, enough to help provide roughly 1.2 million meals throughout Southern Nevada. Since the event began in 2007, it has generated more than 10 million meals for neighbors in need. That’s roughly 20% of the 50 million meals Three Square distributes annually.

Those numbers are staggering, but a little abstract. If you want to see what they represent, visit one of the organization’s massive warehouses, where they store donated and purchased food before distributing it to over 150 partner organizations.

Each warehouse feels like an airplane hangar filled with food, and standing in one can overwhelm you on multiple levels. The need it represents is heartbreaking. But it also illustrates the generosity of our community.

Dine Out, Help Out

Restaurant Week allows us to contribute to the cause by treating ourselves.

For every Restaurant Week meal sold, each restaurant donates between $4 and $6 to Three Square. (You can find out how much each restaurant donates at RestaurantWeekLV.org, where you can also see menus and filter restaurants by location, price or cuisine.)

Every dollar raised equals three meals the organization can distribute to those in need. So your purchase is helping to feed between 12 and 18 of your neighbors—when a family hits a rough patch, when a senior’s budget falls short, or when the next unexpected crisis arrives.

So please, enjoy Restaurant Week. Make reservations. Try something new. Revisit an old favorite. Enjoy the indulgence of a good meal out. It may be the most delicious thing you’ll do for your community all year.
