Pick of the Week: Blue Ribbon American Grill & Oyster Bar

Blue Ribbon American Grill & Oyster Bar at The Cosmopolitan, from chefs Eric and Bruce Bromberg, is known for its elevated American fare, fresh seafood, and oyster bar.

The renowned restaurant has unveiled an enhanced menu of American classics. Highlights of the new menu include Crab-Stuffed Sea Bass with shrimp, scallop, crab, and butter sauce; 14 oz Prime Rib of Beef served with au jus; Wagyu Beef Ox Burger topped with oxtail marmalade and a sunny side up egg; Baked Lobster with garlic butter and breadcrumbs; Cheese Fondue with breadsticks, potato skin, bacon bits, apple and bread; and a secret menu item: Fried Oyster Deviled Eggs with jalapenos and spicy mustard.

Blue Ribbon is renowned for its juicy Fried Chicken, which can be ordered as an appetizer (wings with wasabi honey and Blue Ribbon hot sauce) or entrée (1/2 chicken with togarashi spice). Oysters are also a big hit here, with the “Oysters” bar lit up in neon lights where chefs prepare East and West Coast oysters, clams, King crab, Maine lobster, shrimp cocktail, caviar, Hawaiian Poke, and sushi dishes like the Yellowtail Jalapeno Aguachile with crispy garlic chips and cilantro & Thai dressing.

While not a steakhouse per se, several fine cuts are available, with 8 oz Wagyu Skirt Steak Frites, 16 oz Split Bone Rib Eye, 8 oz Filet Mignon, 16 oz Prime NY Strip, 2 or 4 oz A5 Japanese Wagyu, and gargantuan 32 oz Prime Frenched Tomahawk. They do offer a variety of accompaniments, including chimichurri, truffle butter, wasabi mustard, bordelaise, creamy horseradish, and Blue Ribbon steak sauce, but you won’t need them.

This legendary American eatery, which originated in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood more than 30 years ago, offers a classic dessert you don’t see often these days: the Banana Split, featuring chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream topped with butterscotch, hot fudge, pecans, and whipped cream. Other sweet finales include a Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding, Crème Brulee, and Chocolate Bruno.

The dining room has a sophisticated yet relaxed feel to it, with semi-private caramel-hued upholstered booths with curtains on two sides, beige tile and red velvet walls, hanging Edison light chandeliers, and dark brown wood tables. A beautiful L-shaped bar near the entrance showcases an extensive whiskey selection, featuring winners like Willet Pot Still Reserve and Kavalan Oloroso Sherry Oak Single Malt Whiskey. The bar also crafts handcrafted cocktails, such as the Country Lawyer, which combines bourbon, Cynar Amaro, Lillet Blanc, and chocolate bitters.

Blue Ribbon is located on the third floor of The Cosmo. It is open daily, Sunday through Thursday, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reservations are encouraged. They can be made by visiting The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas online. To view the complete menu, click here.

Mob Museum Unveils The Starlight Plaza

The Starlight Plaza, a new cocktail and event destination, is now open at The Mob Museum.

The seasonal outdoor lounge and entertainment venue is themed to capture Las Vegas’ Golden Age, with eight large-scale murals by Las Vegas artist Derek Douglas (known professionally as SNIPT) celebrating entertainers, showgirls, Rat Pack, iconic Strip resorts, and Fremont Street’s Glitter Gulch.

The beverage program is curated by the Museum’s Senior Director of Food and Beverage, Clint Thoman. Selections, all priced at $15, include The Starlight, a vodka and hibiscus tea blend; The Headliner, gin-based infused with elderflower and snow pea syrup; and Bet on Red, a mix of tequila, amaro, vermouth, and watermelon. As a nod to vintage Vegas, the Golden Age Menu (available for a limited time) will feature classic cocktails, and limited beer and wines for $5 between 5 and 7 p.m.

Live entertainment further sets the mood, with music inspired by Las Vegas legends like the Rat Pack, Liberace, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, and Lena Horne performed from 6 to 9 p.m. on select weekend evenings and Latin jazz every other Thursday.

The Starlight Plaza is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. and to all ages until 5 p.m., after which the venue transforms into a 21+ destination.
