Bartho’s Bierbar Bringing European Vibe and Beers to the Downtown Arts District

Las Vegas is known for having the largest and best in the world in several different categories. Now the Entertainment Capital of the World can soon boast of having the most extensive German beer selection in the US, at the soon-to-open Bartho’s Bierbar situated within the brand new complex dubbed The Distrikt.

Currently under construction, The Distrikt, located at 1563 S Commerce Street between W Wyoming Avenue and W Utah Avenue, will contain about a dozen F&B concepts in small buildings fashioned to resemble storage containers. In addition to Bartho’s Bierbar, there will also be a hot dog restaurant, an Irish pub, a health food store, and a microbrewery.

The new craft beer bar with an international flair is named for its owner, Bartholomaeus Katzmarzyk, a native of Germany who loves Las Vegas and visits often. He envisions Bartho’s Bierbar to be a unique spot for patrons to learn about German beer while also supporting the local market. “I want to create a one-stop shop for local and international brews to create even more variety and something totally different for locals,” says Katzmarzyk. “I discovered The Distrikt and was immediately drawn to its location. We will engage actively in community events and feature local artists inside our small space.”

The 550 square-foot space is being outfitted with approximately 30 cozy seats, a small event area, and an outdoor patio offering additional seating.

There is no draft system, but a curated beer list initially includes more than 70 international bottled beers, with a strong focus on German brews from major regions of Germany. The beer menu is divided into 10 major German beer styles: Altbier, Bock, Helles, Pilsner, Kölsch, Berliner Weisse, Dunkles, Weizen, Dortmunder Export, and Schwarzbier. The extensive selection will include well-known beers (Paulaner Hefeweizen, Warsteiner Pilsner, Spaten) and gems that, unless you’ve traveled across the Atlantic, will be a new taste experience for you (Weltenburger Barock Dunkel, Gaffel Kölsch, Weltenburger Asam Bock).

Plans for American beers being offered will, for the most part, be ones brewed blocks away, with Able Baker and other local breweries’ brews being featured. With the idea to have something for everyone, there will also be a selection of seltzers, non-alcoholic beers, iced tea, sparkling water, and sodas.

No food will be prepared onsite, but a small selection of snacks will be sold (pretzels, mixed nuts, and chips), with patrons allowed to bring in outside food.

As the complex is situated within the Downtown 18b Arts District, it’s fitting that Bartho’s will bring an art vibe by devoting part of its space to an art gallery. The craft beer bar will provide rotating residencies to local artists where they can sell their creations, with the initial artist being Pao Saenz, a Las Vegas-based artist originally from Argentina known for her vibrant, colorful, and emotionally resonant artwork.

Special happenings will include board game night, trivia night, meet up night, providing groups a free space to meet, and a 1¢ Beer Day where guests get a featured beer for just one cent (first beer only).

The new beer bar is under the capable management of GM Joel Moskowitz, an East Coast transplant with ample experience, having worked as a server, busser, runner, and in management over the last two decades. His resume includes Tavern on the Green in NYC and locally as floor manager at Pampas, Scott Conant’s Masso Osteria, Esther’s, and 18bin.

Bartho’s is targeting a soft opening date in mid-September to early October. To keep abreast of the opening, visit bartho-s.com.
